How to tell Time in English
O’clock – जब भी अगर घडी की सुई सटीक घंटे पर हो, तब o’ clock का प्रयोग किया जाता है| इसका Full-form होता है of the clock. For Example –

- Eight o’ clock. – आठ बजना
- Nine o’ clock. – नौ बजना
- It is one o’ clock. – एक बजना
… past … – Past का मतलब अतीत होता है| अर्सथात कोई घंटा होने के बाद बीते हुए मिनट या सेकंड को बताने के लिए past का प्रयोग करते है| Example –

- minutes past ten. – दस बजकर दस मिनट
- 2 minutes past one. – दो बजकर एक मिनट
- 9 minutes pas nine. – 9 बजकर 9 मिनट
… to … – जब अगर कोई घंटा बजने में जितना समय बाकि हो तो, उसे बतलाने के लिए to का प्रयोग करते है| Example –
- 25 minutes to five. – पांच बजने में 25 मिनट बाकि
- Eleven minutes to eleven. – 11 बजने में 11 मिनट बाकि
- twenty-two minutes to three. – तीन बजने में 22 मिनट बाकि
a quarter past … – जब कोई घंटा बजकर 15 मिनट हो रहा हो, तब a quarter past का प्रयोग करते है| Example –
- a quarter past ten. – सवा दस|
- a quarter past two. – सवा दो|
- a quarter past nine. – सवा नौ|
a quarter to … – जब कोई घंटा बजने में 15 मिनट बाकि रहे, तब समय बताने के लिए a quarter to का प्रयोग करेंगे| Example –
- a quarter to seven. – पौने सात
- a quarter to two. – पौने दो
- a quarter to four. – पौने चार
half past … – जब कोई घंटा बजकर 30 मिनट हो रहा हो तब half past का प्रयोग करते है| Example –
- Half past twelve – साढ़े बारह
- Half past eight – साढ़े आठ
- Half past three – साढ़े तीन
It – इसका प्रयोग समय बताने के लिए भी किया जाता है| Example –
- It is a quarter to eight. – पौने आठ बजा है|
- It is half past five. – साढ़े पांच हुआ है|
- It was ten o’ clock. – दस बज रहा था|
Some Important Vocabulary to tell the Time
- Sunrise – सूर्योदय
They left before sunrise.
वे सूर्योदय से पहले चले गए।
- Morning – सुबह
I get up at five o’ clock in the morning.
मैं सुबह पांच बजे उठता हूं।
- Noon – दोपहर
Exactly twelve o’ clock is noon time.
ठीक बारह बजे दोपहर का समय होता है|
- Afternoon – दोपहर बाद
It was raining yesterday afternoon.
कल दोपहर बारिश हो रही थी।
- Midday – दोपहर
It is supposed to be very hot and sunny today at midday.
माना जाता है कि आज दोपहर में बहुत गर्म और धूप खिली रहेगी।
- Midnight – आधी रात
The dogs were barking at midnight.
आधी रात को कुत्ते भौंक रहे थे।
- Twilight – सांझ
I like the way the sky is visible at twilight.
गोधूलि के समय जिस तरह से आकाश दिखाई देता है, वह मुझे पसंद है।
- Dusk – सांझ
At dusk, the bird return to its nest.
शाम होते ही चिड़िया अपने घोंसले में लौट आती है।
- Dawn – भोर
It is dark before dawn.
भोर से पहले अंधेरा होता है।
- Right now – अभी तुरंत
Call him right now.
उसे अभी बुलाओ।
- Just now – अभी-अभी
You lied to me just now.
तुमने अभी मुझसे झूठ बोला।
- Soon – जल्दी
I will see you soon.
मैं तुम्हें जल्द ही मिलुंगा।
- Currently – वर्तमान में, अभी

Some Important Phrases
- The crack of dawn – सूर्य के उदय होने से पहले का समय (usually 4:00 am – 6:00 am)
Most people go for walking at the crack of dawn.
ज्यादातर लोग सुबह होते ही टहलने निकल जाते हैं।
- After dark – अँधेरा होने के बाद का समय (usually 9:00 pm – 1:00 am)
We are not allowed to leave the house after dark.
अंधेरा होने के बाद हमें घर से बाहर निकलने की इजाजत नहीं है।
- Half an hour – 30 मिनट के आस-पास (usually 25 – 35 minutes)
I have been here for half and hour.
मैं यहां आधे घंटे से हूं।
- A quarter of an hour – 15 मिनट के आस-पास (usually 12 – 17 minutes)
You have been staring at her for almost a quarter of an hour.
आप लगभग सवा घंटे से उसे घूर रहे हैं।
- Couple minutes – कुछ ही मिनट (2-3 minutes)
It is a couple minutes past ten.

- In a little while – थोड़ी देर में

- For a long time – लम्बे समय तक
I have no met him for a long time.

- As soon as possible – जितनी जल्दी हो सके

- It’s high time – उचित समय
It is high time to quit smoking.
यह धूम्रपान छोड़ने का उचित समय है।
- Beat the clock – समय समाप्त होने से पहले / समय सीमा से पहले
He managed to beat the clock and finished all his work.
वह समय समाप्त होने से पहले ही अपना पूरा काम ख़त्म करने में कामयाब रहा|
- Better late than never – कभी नही से देर भला
Well Rahul. It is Better late than never. Class started half an hour ago.

- Around the clock – चौबीस घंटे
He plays video games around the clock.
वह चौबीसों घंटे वीडियो गेम खेलता है।
